Fortunately for me my employer asked Sir Ranulph Fiennes to spend an afternoon discussing and presenting his lifetime as an explorer and lessons he’s learnt as a consequence. A truly inspiring man!

Sir Ron’s recent success climbing Everest (on his third attempt) inspired me to once again embark on the process of creating my own personal odds line (tissue).

Climbing the world’s highest mountain is no mean feat. Edmund Hilary was the first to crack it when many had failed (and perished) before him. However, after scaling the peak and blazing the trail for others to follow, the task of climbing the world’s highest mountain is still a test of ability, organisation, strength and will.

As the video indicates all mammoth tasks need to be broken down into achievable pieces and my guess is that previous assaults at the summit of tissue compilation tried to scale the task all at once..

In the coming weeks (or months) the emphasis after handicapping a race is to get the order of my contenders correct. I have started the process of assigning prices to each contender however my measure of success before I move to the next stage is to ensure that

a. The winner of the race is one of my top three contenders

or

b. If the order of my shortlist matches the market, the market and I are both proven correct as the market favourite and my first selection win the race.
