Bet unfair, where winners have just become losers
As I wrote recently Betfair has introduced a new commission scheme. As a consequence they have crated their very own “Gerald Ratner” experience. Not only have they alienated their winning customers, they have contrived to alienate their losing customers at the same time.
After reading their comments on the BF livechat forum Q&A, I can honestly say that Betfair have taken defending the indefensible to new heights. Alistair Campbell would be proud of their contrived spin.
Currently I’m not affected by their new commission scheme, the key word being “currently”.
Like most punters I harbour dreams of making it pay big time and the thought of Betfair siphoning 20% off the back of my hard work in developing a winning approach is concerning.
Betfair are not the only game in town. In my opinion they have just committed commercial suicide by handing an opportunity to their competitors to poach Betfair’s disgruntled “sharp minds”.
When the dust settles and the betting history books are written, Betfair’s actions over the last few days will be consigned to a MBA student case study on how to ruin a competitive edge built up over many years in one moment of greed driven by myopic decisions.

Governments have fallen doing so. It looks like an unnecisary & risky gamble to me – we shall see.
