The forums and boards are red hot after Betfair announced changes to their commission policy! In summary they are to introduce “premium charges” for some of their biggest winners.
I received the following email from Betfair informing me of the changes..
Dear xxxxxx,
We will shortly be making changes to our terms and conditions. These changes will come into effect on the 22nd of September 2008. From this date we will be introducing a new charging mechanism (Premium Charge) that will affect a small number of customers (less than 0.5%).
In line with more than 99.5% of our customers, you will not be affected by the changes. However, we are letting you know about the changes we are making to our terms and conditions as there is a small possibility that you could be affected at some point in the future. If you are required to pay Premium Charges in the future, we will contact you before any additional charges are due.
The changes to our terms and conditions and full details of the new charge can be found here.
The Betfair Management
As I am one of the majority of their customers that are not affected by the changes it’s now official, no premium charges for me so by definition, I must be a loser!

1At least you got an email!
Betfair obviously reckon that there is not even a small possibility that I could be affected at some point in the future.

2Not necessarily – it just means your profits aren’t high enough, or that on the journey to reaping those profits, you have had enough ups and downs to pay the commission threshold they’ve set. It won’t affect every winner…
