Racing UK piggybacked off Setanta’s backend processes for example subscription collection and will now go it alone as a stand alone racing channel. Unfortunately the price for subscription has been increased from £12.99 to £20 per month.

Let’s review what’s happened today!

The Racing Post is planning to implement a subscription service in July rumoured at a cost of £20 month. If you want to watch Racing UK total overheads are now a minimum of £40 month, £480 year (excluding travel and trips to racecourses, specialist trading software etc)

Given the current economic plight of your typical punter, my gut feel tells me that Racing UK is next on the list of companies that will be consumed by the current financial storm that is raging through indebted Britain!

Sir Robin Miller, the Emap publishing veteran, has been parachuted in as Setanta’s chairman to lead it through an emergency refinancing.

Full story here

Since cancelling my subscription in DECEMBER, I am still chasing them for £15 illegally removed from my account.

On the Betfair forum others have had similar experiences

awful company Setanta, ok to join, but hell of a job trying to cancel subscriptions, not customer friendly at all, took me nearly 3 months to drop them, you can join by phone you should be able to cancel by phone imo. with sky you have no probs cancelling packages, I’m unemployed since xmas so cutting my cloth to suit my finances. I only took out Setanta for RUK, who should fly solo imo.

… … I told them I already cancelled and closed my direct debit and they weren’t getting any more money from me, they threatened me with debt collectors, even though I replied in writing, after emails, they still took nearly a month to find my letter of cancellation, costing me 2 months more subs’, which I paid by cheque, Now they ring up and ask me why I left them !!!

Joke of a company, I had exactly the same probelm, impossible to cancel subscription.

However the question remains, if Setanta goes belly up, what happens to Racing UK?
