The Quest for Value

Posted by slipperytoad as Warts and All

From a British perspective the Olympics have been a refeshing change!

No longer are we the nation that revels at glorious failure at the moment of truth. We now approach events with a hardened persona that is “all or nothing”, “win at all cost” “leave nothing behind” while trying to win for queen, country and personal honour.

I know that feeling. I’m ex Royal Air Force who proudly served for 13 years!

Such is the story in that illusive search for value. “all or nothing”, “death or glory” when you bet on a selection because its “value”.

However deep down inside your gut feel tells you that you should have been on that short priced favourite you fancied pre race who was subsequently punted off the board to win accordingly.

A lot of value bets end up in the bin

These are the feelings I’m experiencing now I have refined the task of expressing my handicapping opinion in terms of a betting forecast.

In some respect it’s refreshing. I care not for fancies, tips, hunches, what the hacks are touting or others think. I only think of chances and probabilities.

However as Shanaze Reader recently discovered, the quest for value betting can often end up in bruises.

I think when it comes to the Olympics, you’re supposed to do your best and get what you get.

I don’t think Shenaze throwing away second place in such a manner has made her a better rider too.

What she has done, is show her competitors that she gets desperate in a fight.

A flaw that I am sure many will work on using to beat her. Hopefully for Shenaze – unsuccessfully.
