Handicapping Process

Posted by slipperytoad as Betting Strategy

After some more navel glazing, I have decided to resign my position as assistant coach of my academy basketball team to allow me to apply more focus on horse racing and sports betting.

It was a difficult decision but given my ambitions, it was the right thing to do after 5 years in the number 2 spot. I’ll miss it!

So apart from my day job I can now point the laser ranger mark target seeker toward improving my game. A refocused object required a revamp of my methodology so it’s back to the cut and thrust of low grade handicaps and All Weather races using the following process I developed (basically a refresh of my old one)

The major changes are focused toward grouping contenders in initial stages of handicapping a race and re-evaluating contenders in the later stages of the process once I’ve factored my so called edge; Pace Handicapping.

A horse race is a herd on the move and therefore a match up of horses running against each other from the starting gate to the wire. The race does not start at the half-mile, it starts when the gate opens. The race does not end at the second call, but when they cross the finish line.

I also place greater emphasis on identifying false favourites and finding those horses that place at big prices in preparation for my next goal, exacta betting.

My inspiration for the process goes to professional gambler Tooting and handicapping author’s Mark Cramer and Mark Cotton.
